The Patient Support Nurse will provide support for Oncology patients and caregivers over the phone, by being able to speak to the end-to-end journey for patients in the context of the Oncology program specifics.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the initial point of contact for callers, including patients, their care partners, and/or their HCP/office staff to provide approved information and education for Oncology specific care including: benefit discussions, disease progression, along with general and program specific resources. This role is NOT to provide medical advice.
  • Provide program specific treatment education via approved scripting.
  • When appropriate, facilitate a warm transfer to key program stakeholders (e.g. Specialty Pharmacy or Medical Information) to support inquiries outside of the role’s remit.
  • Utilize Mercalis’ leadership competencies as the driving force behind the team’s succes.
  • On time adherence to training deadlines for all corporate policies and procedures governing access to confidential data
  • Ensure all SOPs are followed with consistency
  • Conduct miscellaneous tasks or projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse with at least 5-10 years of direct clinical oncology experience in inpatient or outpatient settings
  • Experience working as a case manager, care coordination of Oncology patients, telephonic patient care and/or patient support REMS program is preferred
  • Bachelors degree AND Oncology Certification is preferred. If Oncology Certification is not current, must be able to obtain certification.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Patient empathy and understanding are of utmost importance in this role
  • Ability to educate while remaining emotionally supportive
  • Maintain the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Experience in the use of motivational interviewing techniques a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% (subject to change)
