Valeris is seeking a highly motivated and experienced VP Finance Operations, which is a key senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial infrastructure, systems and processes that support scalable, efficient business financial operations. 

 

This role leads the operational finance function supporting the end-to-end order to cash process (program initiation, change orders and close down) across 6 different business lines.  Reporting to the CFO but working collaboratively with leadership across many departments (finance, operations, legal) to ensure financial integrity, compliance and strategic enablement across the enterprise. This position will need to transform, automate and enhance processes/controls to enable a scalable finance operations function.

Responsibilities

1.  Finance Operations Oversight

·         Treasury strategy and operations and cash management in a complex multi-bank environment which includes overseeing movement of customer deposits between various banking institutions and accounts to ensure balances adequately support program demands

·         Attend and lead financial reviews with clients as requested.

·         Billing and collections for 6 business lines and ensure on time invoice generation and accuracy.

·         Prefund management/analysis and contract adjustments and customer negotiations.

·         Customer Contract Interpretation and Support.

·         Drive adherence and discipline in the month end close process.

·         Accounts Payable for patient affordability processors

·         Reporting and monitoring on prefund balances and Aged AR corrective action plans

·         Partner with Client Services on overall financial health of programs.

·         Instill key KPI’s to monitor key operational finance aspects (DSO, cash flow, close time, invoicing completeness and accuracy, Aged AR) and drive towards self-service reporting.

·         Ensure accuracy and timeliness of both P&L and complex balance sheet (including strong reconciliation processes by partnering with IT and operations)

·         Provide operational insight for executive decision making and risk management

·         Ability to find root causes and solutions to cross functional problems.

·         Contribute to new product or service launches by ensuring finance operational processes are well defined.

2. Process Optimization and Automation

·         Drive efficiency and scalability through continuous improvement initiatives.

·         Implement and enhance automation tools across finance operations.

·         Eliminate manual workflows and measurably reduce cycle times.

·         Ensure process documentation is updated, controls are in place and operationalized to be measured.

·         Assess current end to end processes, identify areas of opportunity and develop 3-year optimization roadmap.

2. Financial Systems and Technology

·         Own and maintain NetSuite for O2C processes and ensure system integrations. are working as designed, data integrity and reporting accuracy.

·         Build a technology roadmap to automate and streamline processes.

·         Lead any O2C system upgrades, implementations or process migrations.

·         Build a business case to connect sales force to NetSuite and invoicing data. warehouse to streamline invoicing inputs.

·         Ensure proper system controls are in place.

3. Internal Controls and Compliance

·         Ensure compliance with fin ops SOP’s and policies

·         Ensure robust internal controls in alignment with GAAP and audit requirements in particular for revenue recognition and other accruals made in finance operations.

·         Ensure back up plans are in place to support Tier 1 clients.

·         Design a control framework where preventative and detective controls are documented to address key risk areas.

·         Ensure all past client audit results and CAPA’s are well understood.

·         Ensure timely and accurate client invoice generation and proper sign offs are occurring.  Create a tracker that SLA’s on timely and accurate invoicing are being met.

·         Timely support by meeting established deadlines and delivery for month-end and the financial statement audit.

 

4. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

·         Strong relationships with Client Services leadership, finance and legal to support end to end business processes.

·         Regular feedback loop on insights to pricing team and FP&A team to support. accurate forecasting and budgeting through clean financial data.

·         Establish strong banking relationships.

·         Present and/or create materials that instill confidence to clients in financial presentations.

·         Regular scorecard updates with CFO and other executives as needed.

5. Leadership and Team Development

·         Lead, mentor and develop team of ~6 plus offshore partner ~6

·         Foster a high performance, accountability driven culture within finance operations organization

·         Create SMART focused objectives and development plans and foster a strong team collaborative environment.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related required.
  • 15+ years accounting and finance operations experience, revenue recognition required.
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams required.
  • Experience managing Offshore teams preferred.
  • CPA required.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Able to thrive in a fast paced and changing environment required.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or pharmaceutical services strongly preferred
  • Proven track record overseeing finance operations (AP, AR, billing, revenue, treasury) required.
  • Audit experience or experienced in setting up financial controls strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 606, deferred revenue and Accounts Receivable management and internal controls preferred.
  • Other Desired Qualifications required:
    • Deep familiarity with financial systems such as NetSuite (direct experience with NetSuite preferred) and finance automation projects
    • Experience establishing effective relationships with business partners, gaining in-depth understanding of needs and a track-record of meeting/exceeding expectations.
    • Strong project management skills and experience with working cross-functionally with other departments to execute complex projects
    • Experience identifying weakness in controls and driving to adequate resolution.
    • Experience identifying inefficiencies in existing process and success driving improvements.
    • Proven ability to lead and scale high performing teams.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time, use hands to type, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to type 35 WPM with 97% accuracy. 
  • Although very minimal, flexibility to travel as needed is preferred.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.
