The Product Owner, Backend Services, will play a critical role in enabling a smoother, faster patient journey to therapy. This role focuses on the backend eServices and integrations that streamline critical steps in the access process—such as benefits verification, prior authorization, and data exchange with external partners. Working closely with engineering, QA, data teams, and internal stakeholders, you will define clear backend requirements, validate system behavior, and support the delivery of reliable services that expedite patient access to lifesaving treatments.
As the Product Owner for Backend Services at Valeris, you will be responsible for translating patient-access and affordability needs into clear backend requirements that enhance and accelerate the therapy initiation journey. You will partner closely with engineering, QA, data teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure our eServices operate efficiently, reliably, and in alignment with program and client needs.
Own and maintain a backend-focused product backlog centered on APIs, integrations, data workflows, and service logic that support patient-access processes.
Write clear, detailed user stories and acceptance criteria that accurately reflect workflow needs, logic rules, and technical dependencies.
Prioritize work based on program needs, operational urgency, and patient-impact value with direct communiation on prioritization with your manager.
Translate business requirements into backend system behaviors that streamline the patient journey
Define backend workflows, data mappings, integration requirements, and logic rules to ensure seamless eService performance.
Collaborate with SMEs to align backend designs
Use Postman to test and validate APIs, service endpoints, and integration workflows.
Use SQL to query, validate, and investigate data across backend systems to ensure accuracy and integrity.
Support QA in developing test scenarios and confirming that backend services meet acceptance criteria.
Work closely with the Scrum Master and engineering team to plan sprints, groom stories, and ensure clarity of scope and expected outcomes.
Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, providing timely answers and direction to keep development moving efficiently.
Review completed work, validate functionality, and ensure readiness for deployment.
Partner with operations, data teams, business analysts, and client-facing teams to understand workflow challenges and system needs.
Serve as the primary point of contact for backend functionality, integration behaviors, data rules, and eService logic.
Provide clear communication on changes, impacts, risks, and timeline expectations.
Use logs, SQL, API responses, and system analytics to support incident investigation and root cause analysis.
Identify workflow gaps or inefficiencies and translate them into actionable backlog enhancements.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of backend services that support the speed, reliability, and quality of patient access workflows.
2–4+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role working with backend systems, APIs, or integration-driven platforms.
Hands-on experience using Postman to test and validate APIs, endpoints, and backend services.
Proficient in SQL for querying data, validating workflows, and supporting root cause analysis.
Strong understanding of backend architectures, system integrations, data workflows, and microservices concepts.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with cross-functional technical teams.
Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to translate business needs into clear technical requirements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to a fast-paced environment, and operate with limited oversight.
Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with engineering, QA, data teams, and operational stakeholders.
Experience in life sciences, patient support services, specialty pharmacy, HUB services, or healthcare technology.
Familiarity with backend systems that support patient access workflows (e.g., benefits verification, prior authorization, provider/payer integrations).
Experience working with cloud-based platforms or distributed systems.
CSPO or equivalent product certification.
Experience with ADO, Jira, or similar Agile delivery tools.
